The 2021 Suite by Dimaension X

 A "Zappa-inspired" suite of music, i.e., it's progressive rock music with horns, marimba, extended improvised guitar solos, time changes, and other stuff, too. Just one long song, divided into several parts. I figured it's time to visit my roots and go back to some more "fun" sounding music, instead of trying to drag out more doom and drone music. And of course I started listening to Frank Zappa again, so voila. I also listened to the very first Devo album all the way through, and decided I needed some short snippets of Devo in my new music, too. So the segues between the 5 parts are short spurts of Devo songs. Performed by Dimaension X. Recorded & produced by Dave Lanciani. Music composed by Dave Lanciani/Dimaension X. Extra bits and pieces of music by Mark Mothersbaugh, Bob Mothersbaugh, Gerald Casale. There's also a not-so-hidden snippet of Aldo Nova's song "Fantasy". See if you can find it. Dedicated to Frank Zappa and Eddie Van Halen. BTW, all the images were created by me, using Photoshop.

I played more "live" drums on this one, with my AKAI MPD218, to get a much more "real" feel in the percussion. Also using the SSD5 drum sampler (Steven Slate drums - it's a FREE download!), which sounds great. Performed by Dimaension X. Recorded & produced by Dave Lanciani.

 The latest in my ongoing series ... this one is actually TWO cover tunes slapped together, ... 

The first part is my version of parts of the song "Terrallende" by Andrey Klimkovsky, and the second part is my version of the song "Synth Freak" by Jampy Keys.  See the video description for more details on these folks. More Space Jazz 083020

 More Spacey Jazz-Rock-Fusion ... not much more to say, but there's more drum solos and improvs, bass is the Ample Bass VSTi, and I used my Agile AL-3010 Les Paul copy this time.

Most of this piece is composed of a bunch of quickly improvised bass and/or drum riffs, and them I added the atmospheric synth pads, and finally recorded the guitars. Line 6 POD GO for the guitar tones, with some additional Earthquaker Pedals (Tranmisser and Avalanche Run).

Working on New Music for 2012

Hey! I'm unemployed again! Oh boy! Well, I'm not too happy about that, but in between updating my resume, cover letters, and online job-searching, I AM working on some new music.

Been in a very spacey, synthy mood lately, so my new stuff is very "electronic". I'm trying to imagine Tangerine Dream more as a heavy rock band than new agey. More space-rock-metal. Sort of. Loud, eerie synths and sounds create a dark atmosphere, deep reverby drums pounding out rock rhythms, and distorto guitars blasting alongside.

The guitars will have less of a role in this album. Much more accompanying the big synth sounds than taking the lead. There may be some solos, but maybe not. Depends on my mood as time goes on. I have a lot of ideas in mind, so this may be a long album, or a double CD. Headphones will definitely be recommended for the full stereo spectrum of all the weird synth sounds.

I have most of the synths recorded , ... now to work on the guitars, and maybe add some live bass. More updates later.
